The circus swung into town Wednesday, big buses and little vans full of performers and energy. Nick Urata of DeVotchKa played ringmaster to the orchestrated mayhem, featuring Basia Bulat as the opening act, leaping from charging white mares to her tunes of lovers and sweetgrass. DeVotchka brought out the dancing elephants of tubas and strings, played from their new album 'A Mad & Faithful Telling' in addition to selections from their past records. A swelling farewell with two encores, all stops were pulled out as The Amazing Slavic Sisters performing death-defying aerial stunts. Photos by Stacy Schwartz                     |
