Considering how massive a fan I am of local songwriter Jeremy Messersmith I have to admit I’m a bit ashamed that Reveille’s been around for half a year and this is the first I’ve gotten around to writing about him for the site. Suffice it to say Messersmith’s melancholic yet breezy folk pop is one of my primary listening pleasures and any local music fans that slept on his 2006 debut The Alcatraz Kid should run to the record store and buy it stat.  A dash of Beatles, a pinch of Semisonic (Dan Wilson’s currently working with Messersmith on a sophomore album due later this year) and a whole lot of talent comprise Messersmith’s approach as captured by Reveille’s camera’s during a recent performance this past December at the Cedar Cultural Center. Reveille is proud to present to our loyal readers to sweet live performance videos of arguably The Alcatraz Kid’s best two songs, 89.3 the Current staple “Novocain” and the heart tugging ode to domesticity “7:02.” Enjoy.

Thanks to Jeremy Messersmith, The Cedar, Paul Gillis and Ripple Entertainment. Video production by Dan Schuchman and Erik Nelson.
