![]() Martin Dosh - Photo by Cameron Wittig The world of Dosh just got a little bit bigger. Dosh and his extended posse (Andrew Bird, Andrew Broder, Jeremy Ylvisaker, Jel, Mike Lewis, and others) were originally only supposed to be playing one show on Saturday, May 3 at the Walker's McGuire Theatre, but now that the 8 pm show has sold out, the Walker has added a second show at 11 pm. I spoke with Dosh briefly on the phone and he confirmed that while this isn't exactly a CD release show for his new anticon disc, Wolves and Wishes, copies of the album will be available at the show, meaning that yes, this does serve as the de facto release show. Wolves and Wishes shows yet again that more than separate statements, Dosh's records are more like pieces of one giant experiment that's ongoing. If The Lost Take found him obsessed with sequencers and cascading series of notes, Wolves and Wishes retains some of those structures while fuzzing the edges with drones and distorted guitar. It'd be easy enough to point to the individual bits and pieces that show some of Dosh's new wrinkles, but that would probably just make it seem like Dosh has some goal that he's gradually moving towards. But instead, he's as much at sea as the rest of us, feeling his way by instinct to some destination that even he's not sure about. Thus it's only appropriate that this set of concerts be called the World of Dosh. Just as he assembles instruments around himself onstage, he brings together people in order to harness their unique musical energies. Half the enjoyment of seeing him ply his trade live is watching him work through the songs in a methodical way, and the Walker's excellent McGuire Theatre should prove an ideal venue for letting him stretch his legs while his collaborators blend their own parts into the overall sound.
