Their music rumbles with the intensity of a thousand late night drunken jam sessions, with lyrics and distorted chords pieced together recklessly in the spirit of their Minneapolis punk predecessors. On their new album, Awesome Shoot 'Em-Up Love, Kruddler make it abundantly clear that their days of making sarcastic, raw rock songs are far from over. "American Idle" mocks the state of corporate America from beneath a layer of lo-fi fuzz, while "I Can't Standz" laments, "I try to figure out what Newton's gravity has against me / So here I lie / And I wonder why I'm prone to do what grown people do." Tonight's Kruddler CD release show also features the birth of yet another new Minneapolis band, Crossing Guards, featuring Eclectone label head and acclaimed singer-songwriter Martin Devaney, Sean Hoffman (Mark Mallman, many other things), Judd Hildreth (Valet, Duplomacy, Mollycuddle), Eric Kassel (The Magnolias, several other bands), and Reveille's own Steve McPherson. Kruddler MySpace page UP NEXT: Kruddler play the Turf Club tonight in support of their new album, with Rank Strangers, Crossing Guards and Bitter Spills. 9 p.m. $5. 21+. |
